Dr. Noreen Heer Nicol is an Associate Professor at the University of Colorado, College of Nursing.  Prior to this position, she was at Children’s Hospital Colorado and National Jewish Health.  Her nursing career spans over 35 years as a clinician, administrator, and educator.  Her roles included Chief Nursing Officer & Chief Clinical Officer over all hospital services while a practicing nurse practitioner at National Jewish Health and Director of Professional Development at Children’s Hospital Colorado.  She completed her PhD in Clinical Science at the University of Colorado, MS in Nursing at the University of Utah as a Family Nurse Practitioner, and her BS in Nursing at the University of Northern Colorado.

Dr. Nicol is recognized as an international expert on skin health and skin care.  She is a past president of the Dermatology Nurses’ Association and the National Federation for Specialty Nursing Organizations.  For over a decade, she was the US Advisory Board Member for the International Skin care Nursing Group. Atopic dermatitis and allergic skin disease are her clinical areas of interest.  Her publications include more than 100 articles and nursing and medical textbook chapters on dermatology, allergy and immunology, professional nursing and healthcare administration issues. She is a frequent international speaker and consultant in these areas. She is editor-in-chief and author for the core curriculum textbook for the Dermatology Nurses’ Association- Nicol, N. H.  (Ed.). (2016). Dermatologic Nursing Essentials: A Core Curriculum, (3rd ed.).

Dr. Nicol is the recipient of numerous state and national awards.  These honors and awards include the Colorado Nightingale Award for Nursing Excellence, Distinguished Alumni of University of Northern Colorado for Contribution to Health Award, Sigma Theta Tau Image Maker Award, and President’s Award and Hall of Fame Award from the Dermatology Nurses’ Association.
